Over the years Reza Moridi has proved that better is always possible in Canada. During his years in the government Reza has delivered as a dreamer, innovator and builder for Ontario .

 

Reza’s career spans academia, research, corporate and public service. He was the first Iraninan- Canadian elected to legislature and has served in the office from (2007- June 2018). As a member of the Ontario cabinet, he led Science and Technology missions to USA (four times), China (twice), Korea, Germany (twice), Czech Republic, Israel (twice), West Bank (twice), Jordan, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan and Nuclear Energy delegations to China and Korea.

 

He was instrumental in transforming the innovation ecosystem in Ontario. He initiated establishment of Campus Linked Accelerators in all Ontario universities and colleges and expanded the mandate of the Ontario Capital Growth Corporation (OCGC) and helped establish a number of venture capital funds.

 

Moreover Reza secured substantial government funding for MaRS to complete construction of the West Tower and become one of the largest innovation commercialization hubs in Americas.

 

Reza managed to secure significant funding for transformative technology projects such as Autonomous Vehicles, Artificial intelligence, 5G digital infrastructure, cyber security, Big Data and Advanced Manufacturing.

Prior to entering into politics, he held a 17-year career at the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada where he was the Vice-President and Chief Scientist.  During this period, he developed a thorough understanding of the full spectrum of the Canadian nuclear industry .

 

Reza is a graduate of Tehran University, Iran (BSc and MSc) and Brunel University London, UK (MTech and PhD).  He received an Honorary Doctorate from Odlar Yurdu University, Baku, Azerbaijan.
