Canada Pakistan Business Council hosted a luncheon for Mr. John Gosal, Head of Commercial and Economic Affairs, Canadian High Commission Islamabad and Senior Trade Commissioner, as well as Ahsan ul Haq, Trade Commissioner in Islamabad.
In the meeting, Mr. Gosal shed light on trade commission services for Pakistan and Afghanistan which he heads out of Islamabad. He listed several sectors where business collaborations between Pakistan and Canada would be beneficial for large scale business opportunities in the area of ICT, forestry, oil and gas, education, life sciences and infrastructure. There are also great opportunities to assist small and medium sized enterprises.
The event was attended by CPBC board members, advisors and sponsors, elected members including Hon. Dr. Shafiq Qaadri- MPP Etobicoke North and Mr. Frank Scarpitti-Mayor of Markham, Deputy CG Mr. Asghar Ali Golo on behalf of Pakistan Consulate in Toronto. Akhil Tyagi representing Ontario Exports and OMAFRA official Mr. Athar Shah. Geoffrey Jones Trade Commissioner Ontario Region who also highlighted the role that DFAIT plays and how it has evolved in a establishing two relationships for mutual benefits.
CPBC President Samir Dossal appreciated the strategic role played by the DFAIT in promoting business opportunities between Canada and Pakistan and also stressed on the need to enhance it further. It was highlighted that achieving a $1 billion dollar trade landmark would bring Pakistan in the limelight from Canadian Government perspective. Samir offered CPBC’s continued assistance to trade commissions of Canada and Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Frank Scarpitti-Mayor of Markham appreciated CPBCs role in the community and contributions made to the City by Canadians of Pakistan origin. Samir Dossal also acknowledged the generous contribution in scholarship program for NUST (National University of Science and Technology, Pakistan) by City of Markham. Mayor later presented a memento to the guests on behalf of the City of Markham.
The above was followed by Q&A by guests to Mr. John Gosal. In the end, Bryon Wilfert summarized the discussions and thanked everyone for their inputs. A formal vote of thanks was offered by Jayne Pilot the Vice President of CPBC. The next upcoming event will be a workshop on April which is being coordinated with DFAIT and other levels of governments.
